You Know...
a lot of people think that Han Solo is bragging about the Millenium Falcon’s speed when he says that he ran the Kessel Run in under twelve parsecs. However, this is a mistake. A parsec is a measure of distance. Solo is actually remarking on his navigational ability - to be able to chart such a short hyperspace route through the tangle of black holes that pepper the Kessel Run is what Luke...
Tony Bourdain: Tokyo
Well, one can hardly complain about the plumbing here. The toilet seat is a preheated, toasty warm. A menu of warm jets of varying intensities, direction and temperature awaits should I choose to press one of the many buttons. I am afraid to do so. Since Todd discovered his toilet, it’s been very hard getting him out of the bathroom for crew calls. Yesterday, after numerous unanswered phone...
White House Correspondent Says She Was Pressured... →
Yellin makes it clear that the likelihood of negative stories being put on the air went down as approval ratings went up. Is there another instance in history when democracy fails because of the citizenry?
Ten Japanese Customs You Must Know Before A Trip... →
I think this is good general knowledge - you should know this stuff whether you go to Japan or not, just to have a baseline for encountering their culture.

Skinny Love - Bon Iver Live performance filmed by La Blogotheque. Click that to see more songs, but I love this one so much. An amazing concert altogether.
Ron Paul Still Running, Apparently →
“For them, the Ron Paul message has the feel not of 1776, but of 1968, when an unpopular war raged abroad, and a subculture of disenfranchised young people embraced an unorthodox philosophy built around a utopian ideal of freedom.” In 1968 they elected Nixon. Good luck with your “revolution”, guys.
Chinese Christian Wedding Destroyed By Earthquake →
These are once-in-a-lifetime, Pulitzer-winning photos. The tragedy of this earthquake is beyond comprehension, but the context of a wedding ruined by it is a poignant humanizing factor.
New Hold Steady!
I missed out on Myspace Wednesday this week but the Hold Steady have a brand new song on their Myspace - Sequestered in Memphis. It’s great, very along the lines of Boys and Girls In America and likely a real crowdpleaser. The Hold Steady is an endless supply of extremely well-written songs, it seems. The song will burst into life as soon as you click on that link.
La Guitara
In researching Kaki King I stumbled upon this project. Its aim is to promote and showcase female guitar players, which might seem like a gimmick until you actually go to the site and see what high quality music the project is putting together. There is a CD out which I will endeavor to get a hold of, in the meantime, check out the Kaki King mp3 below and listen to the other artists here
Yves Behar is a great designer with an electronics bent, but he’s done great furniture and lighting design as well. His talk ends with him throwing condoms into the crowd , too, which is great.
Dalai Lama Speaks on Compassion →
I think the politics of friendship and compassion - cultivated on an individual level - are those that are going to have to come to the forefront if our country is to remain a superpower.
There’s a very simple explanation for why there’s so much violence...

Relax guys. Hitler was just fulfilling god’s will when he carried out the Holocaust. Obama gets grilled for two weeks for Jeremiah Wright, whose endorsement he never accepted, and John McCain gets away with this?
The Mission of Burma Story →
Follow up link to the song today - a great documentary on Mission of Burma’s triumphant return to the stage.
I will always hold up this as indicative of what the Bush administration was like, when asked about it years hence. The passion, the frustration, the outrage, this is the perfect expression how it felt to be under the heel of the Bush administration as they bent our country to their selfish aims. quicket: This erudite indictment of our present is as powerful as it is clearly passionate....
The Blog Is Back
I’m going start up the blog about 12 hours early than I intended in order to re-blog this Olbermann spoken essay. Tomorrow will be a full day of posting!
(Brief) Hiatus
So, unfortunately this is the last week of school for me, and that means papers and finals. In conjunction with this, my laptop is broken, and has to be sent in for repair. So posts are going to be scarce and erratic until late next week. I really do apologize for the lapse.

This blurb from the Freakanomics blog illustrates my number one reason for voting for Obama - he listens to experts.
